INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC

INTRODUCTION

Traditional Lithuanian musical instruments are classified below according to the source and type of sound they produce. 

Self-sounding instruments (idiophones) include bells and scrapers such as dzingulis, kleketas, terkšlė, tabalai, and skrabalai. The idiophones differ from other musical instruments in that they hold a concrete function of their own in everyday life.

The category of drums and drum-like instruments (membranophones) includes the būgnas and būgnelis

The kanklės and puslinė are string instruments (chordophones).

Among the many Lithuanian wind instruments (aerophones) are skudučiai, vilioklis, švilpukas, molinukas, lamzdelis, švilpa, tošelė, ubikas, birbynė, medžioklės ragas, jaučio ragas, ožragis, žievės trimitas, kerdžiaus trimitas, ragai and daudytės
