This dance variant (as other similar variants) is merry and energetic dance. It is assumed, that it was originated in Latvia, that is why it is more spread in the regions, neighbouring the boarder of Latvia. This dance is popular in the evening parties. The music consists of two parts, 2/4 time, the tempo is quick.

The sequence of the dance

Two pairs of dancers stretch right hands at a height of shoulders towards the centre, join hands and make a star. Left hands are held free (1 figure).

1. Stars

(16 bars)

1-7 bar

Dancers in a simple or running step every crotchet turn the star in the direction of the Sun (1 figure)

8 bar

Everybody stands and claps hands three times (“one-and-two”)

 
 

9-16 bar

Repeat the movements of 1-8 bar, but the star is turned in a different direction.

 

 

2. Polka (16 bars)

Dancers join hands in pairs for polka and dance polka in Part 2. When the dance is repeated, the pairs, which dispersed during polka, can make stars of new composition. The pairs are often changing this way.
