VENGIERKA - LELINGERIS

This dance is danced in fours. The music of the dance consists of two parts, 2/4 time, tempo is moderate.

The sequence of the dance

 

Two pairs stand one behind another. Dancers in a pair join hands (woman’s - left, man’s - right), the first pair joins is free hands with the second pair behind it, this way a ‘wheelbarrow' is formed (1 figure)

Part 1

(8 bars)

1 bar

All dancers dance two simple steps forward (women - right, men - left foot)

2 bar

A triangle step with in the same place (women’s - right, men’s - left foot)

“one” - to stretch the leg with toes forward,

“and” - to pass in a curved line along to the side;

“two” - to add to the left foot;

“and” - a pause.

 
 

3-4 bar

The dancers repeat the movements of 1-2 bar, but start dancing with the other foot.

 
 

5-6 bar

Starting with the outside leg, the dancers step four simple steps forward.

 
 

7-8 bar

Everybody dance two triangle steps first with the outside leg, then with the inside leg. (please refer to movements of 2 bar).

 
2.Changing places

(16 bars)

1-4 bar

The dancers are not changing the way of joining hands and once again repeat the movements of 1-4 bar: simple steps forward and a triangle step.

 
 

5-6 bar

The dancers of the first pair let their hands free (but they do not let the hands, joined with the second pair, free), turn round their outside shoulders, and, starting with the outside legs, dance four simple steps behind the second pair, which is not changing the way of joining hands and goes four steps forward to the place of the first pair. Having gone behind the second pair, the dancers join inside hands (2, 3 figure).

7-8 bar

Having changed places, the pairs dance two triangle steps, first with outside leg, then with inside leg.

 
 

9-16 bar

The dancers repeat the movements of 1-8 bar, but now the second pair goes behind the first couple.

 

Further the dance is danced from the beginning.
